At SJA, giving is an act of worship.

We believe that the things we have, our time, our talents and our finances, are gifts from God. Our act of worship is in giving these things back to the Lord. We don't believe that God needs our money any more than He needs our worship. But, it is our privilege and our joy to worship Him who is the Giver of all good things with the things He has provided.

As we give, we are acknowledging God and His place in our lives. We are surrendering to Him the very things which take up so much time and worry. We are placing in His capable hands, our provisions, and praying that the work these gifts enable would please Him, edify the congregation, enable future generations to share the Gospel, and bring souls into the Kingdom.

Donations can now be made using mobile devices. Simply text the word FAITH to 76959 and follow the on-screen instructions.

Financial giving is something that should be done by those who call SJA their home church, or are regularly attending some of our services. We do not expect visitors to give financially, and ask that they would make sure their tithes go to support the church they call home.

Our purposes for giving are:
1) To further the work that the Lord has tasked us with.
2) To express gratitude.
3) To express faith in the Lord's provision.

We give back from the things that we have been given. Finances, of course, are part of the equation. But, they're not the only part. We have been given time on earth, and so, we give of that time. We have been given abilities, and so, we give of those abilities. These are the pieces of the equation that fit together into how we give to the Lord.

We give when the Lord tells us to give. Scheduled giving is a regular reminder of Who God is to us, and where we stand in relation to Him. As a practical matter, many people give from their regular income as they receive it, and as a matter of practice, SJA receives tithes and offerings at each Sunday service.

As with the question of When do we give, how much is also based on the leading of the Lord. The word that is translated into English as "tithe" literally means "the tenth part," and we observe in Scripture that a tenth was given by Abram to the High Priest.

We believe that, far more important than the amount of the gift, is the heart of the giver. The Bible says, "The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
2 Corinthians 9:6-7

A tithe is literally, a tenth. Offerings are those things which are above the tenth part and are generally considered voluntary.

This is really a matter of how the Lord leads one to give. Some people prefer to tithe from gross income in anticipation of owing taxes at the end of the year. Others prefer to tithe from net income and include a tithe of their income tax returns. In the end, though, the Lord's leading should dictate whether to tithe from gross or net income.

Most of the time, yes. If your bank offers an online bill pay option, you should be able to add SJA as a payee. Traditional bank transfers are a different, more complicated issue, and you should contact our financial administrator through the contact page before initiating a transfer.

Yes. We use Paperless Transaction Corporation to process credit card transactions. They are fully PCI compliant, and payment processing is all they do. Your credit card information never leaves their facilities, and we never see any of the transaction information. We get a receipt that tells us who gave, and how much.

Every online payment that SJA receives incurs a cost from the processing company as well as the credit card issuers. Most commercial credit card processors charge from 2.75% to 3.5% plus a nominal fee of $.25 to $.35 per transaction. For a gift of $10, we can expect as much as 6% to go to pay fees. Next, many processors charge a monthly fee to use their service. In the case of PayPal, that monthly charge was $25.

With the help of Paperless Transaction Corp., SJA was able to create an account as a not-for-profit charity directly with each of the major credit card companies, which allows us a better rate. Plus, Paperless's transaction costs are roughly 1.5% to 2.5% with no monthly fees or minimums. This arrangement allows more of your gift to go directly to SJA's programs and facilities.

Finally, Paperless is an entirely faith-based organization service provider. As their web site states, "Employees at PTC share a love of the Gospel, a commitment to ethical Christian principles and a servant attitude. They treasure their role in providing web-based fundraising solutions that assist ministries and churches in spreading the Gospel and alleviating suffering throughout the world."
